Ivy Nguyen chose the name Ivy when she became a U.S. citizen, after years of people mispronouncing and teasing her given name. She wanted something easy for everyone else. Years later, watching her own children adapt to fit in, she began asking whether she was modeling the right behavior. Ivy, who leads enterprise resilience at General Mills, warned that categories and boxes are the easy way out, and that no one should have to pick a group to feel included.
