Changing The Definition of Health

DeAnna Minus-Vincent leads social integration and health equity for RWJBarnabas Health in New Jersey. Early in her career she saw women rely on their 12-year-old sons to translate at the OB-GYN, and says we are still solving the same problems 25 years later. Her system now screens every patient for social needs, whatever their income. She once weighed 120 pounds more, and a review found Black employees drew 40 percent of disciplinary actions while making up 20 percent of staff.
