Mental Health and Wellbeing in Schools

Andy Sulick

From the recording

An objection to something we're doing is a need stated negatively. If we can help meet that need, then that objection goes away.

About this episode

Andy Sulick, president of Santa Margarita Catholic High School, saw what the pandemic did to young people's mental health in Orange County and decided his school had to respond. His team began asking students and faculty what would help, treating each objection as a need stated negatively. Students helped design a wellness space placed beside campus ministry and activities so no one feels singled out. For the first time in 34 years, students join leadership meetings.
